Blog Lovin'

I think most fashion addicts have a mirage of blogs they read on a daily basis. Normally, I wake up an extra half hour early to sit with my oatmeal and read all the best fashion blogs. I just can't get enough! Some may call me a freak... others may lead the same existence. These blogs range from street style, celebrity to industry. I just want to absorb as much information as I can and who doesn't want to get new inspiration for outfits? It's always good to experiment and as mentioned in previous posts... take risks!

My blogreel:

Model and fashion extraordinaire - Hanneli Mustaparta
The Parisian style goddess - Le Blog de Betty
Tommy Ton can do no wrong - Jak & Jill
Mr. Diva himself - Bryan Boy
Cindy van der Heyden aka. COTTDS - Come Over To The Dark Side
My favourite Scandinavian blogger - Vanillascented
Marie from Blame It On Fashion is an inspiration (she used to blog for A Fashion Tale) - Blame It On Fashion
For good ol' Los Angeles style and treats you MUST read ... Cupcakes & Cashmere
If you want to get into the fashion industry then you must read  - Exposed Zippers
Of course the masters of Street Style (and married in real life) - Sartorialist & Garance Dore
Actress (from Revenge) and stylish London girl, Ashley Madekwe - Ring My Bell
Another Scandinavian blogger that I swear has the best style EVER - Columbine
My all time favourite street style blog - Carolines Mode (Stockholm Street Style)
Rumi and her effortless fashion sense - FashionToast
The hilarious (now engaged, so not much of a real man repeller..) Leandra Medine - Man Repeller
AND... of course.. blogger extraordinaire Elin Kling - Style by Kling

I highly recommend checking these blogs out. They are full of great inspiration!

Style Icons

Everyone has celebrities or successful people they admire. I think it's important to have people you admire in life because it pushes you to venture into unknown territory and take risks. Some risks may be as small as wearing a tangerine coloured sweater instead of black or wearing high heels during the daytime. All these little things you admire women (or men) for make you push yourself to do something that isn't second nature to you which expands your boundaries. This is a good thing!

The three of my all time style and personal icons are Christine Centenera - Editor & Chief of Harper's Bazaar Australia, Emmanuelle Alt - Editor & Chief of Vogue Paris and Tamara Mellon - Original Co-Founder of Jimmy Choo. All three of these women are successful, powerful and extremely stylish. Who doesn't want to be Editor & Chief of Vogue Paris? Like hello! That is every little fashionista's dream. Dream big kids!

Any woman that can wear sweat pants, a sasquatch fur jacket and black and white striped high heels and look seriously stunning is an icon in my books. Common... If I walked down the street wearing this people would be yelling "chewbacca". It takes someone fierce to pull this outfit off...

Emmanuelle Alt is just French chic through and through and who doesn't want to be French? Any woman that can rock no make up on a daily and still look fierce is an icon.

And last but not least... Tamara Mellon. The day the news broke about Tamara bowing down as CCO of Jimmy Choo, my heart broke. I've admired her since I was like 15. She co-founded Jimmy bloody Choo, that says it all right there. This English fashionista is a hero to all us shoe whores. I'm slightly hoping she dabbles in something else... maybe another shoe line? maybe woman's clothing? ... *fingers crossed*.

Sparkle this New Years Eve

'Tis the season for glitz and glamour. As the new year approaches any true fashionista plans the perfect New Years Eve outfit that will flatter and sparkle even in candlelight.

Normally, my NYE plans are a little last minute but this year, I was fortunate enough to be invited to one of Vancouver's infamous NYE parties. It'll be a lot of vino, music, great people, and tons of sparkle. I can't wait! I've been on the hunt for an outfit that is classy but with the right amount of scandal. No one wants to be stuffy on NYE but you also don't want to look ain't nothin' but a hoochie mama. If you know what I mean?

 {If it isn't too much to ask, I'd also like Chace Crawford as my date ;)}

After watching Gossip Girl (Riding in Town Cars with Boys) last week, I was seriously obsessed with Serena's (Blake Lively) strapless fringe dress. When the episode finished, I was on the computer scouting out how I can get my paws on that Marchesa dress. Did you love it as much as I did? The hint of purple fringe, the sparkle of the bow, everything was perfect.

Like many GG outfits, they are sold out everywhere within hours of airing the show and that is just what happened with this Marchesa Ombre Fringed cocktail dress. I think I phoned Holt Renfrew and Leone twice. Talked to two different people and both apologized over and over for not having a size 4 in that dress. :( Then finding out it was $5,500 didn't make me so sad that it wasn't available. By the time I went to Polyvore this message below popped up! :(  What am I going to do now?! This is very much an oh-woe-is-me moment ;)

{dress love <3 }

These are some of the runner ups.....

Urban Outfitters - $99.00

Top Shop - $350.00

{add some crazy shoes and make this dress perfect for NYE!}
Donna Mizani - $230

 {I love this dress!}
Alice & Olivia $612

I really should look at this as a good thing. With all the money I'll save, I can get awesome shoes and accessories to make my outfit - POP!

To Fur or Not to Fur?

 {Ushanka from H&M}

That is the question. Wearing an Ushanka (aka. a fur hat with ear flaps) obviously is well known in the freezing climates such as Russia but its ventured its way into the North American culture and I'm not talking Nunuvut. Besides the fact that it makes your head like 10 sizes bigger than it really is, it does keep your noggin quite toasty. Does that mean this fashion trend should be donned by the best of us? I think that is for you to decide. After trying on handfuls of Ushanka's this weekend wondering if this fashion trend was for me, I decided better of it. My head is big enough already and my hair is kind of my pride and joy, so slipping it into a full fledged faux fur Russian hat is not my idea of a good time. Also, for the fact that I do not look like Miranda Kerr in this hat makes it a litter harder for me to bare. For those that choose to fur.... hats off to you ;)

 {Miranda Kerr}

{are you in there?}
Unless you are a Rockefeller and don't mind spending thousands on a real fur Ushanka, I recommend hitting up H&M, The Gap or even Forever 21 for a cheap yet chic fur topper.

 {The Gap - $39.95}

Also, for a side note... they also call Ushanka's - Troopers. Why? I don't know... all I can think about is when they do their Russian dance, cross their arms and kick out their feet bouncing from side to side. Am I alone in this?
